Seegene Participates in 26th ECCMID

From April 9~12, Seegene participated in the 26th European Congress of Clinical Microbiology (ECCMID), which was held this year in Amsterdam.

The ECCMID is an academic conference attended by clinicians who diagnose/treat infectious diseases caused by microorganisms and researchers who work in affiliated hospital/commercial laboratories. The number of participants increases each year; this year’s conference saw an attendance record of 11,600 participants from 123 countries. Together with Seegene, a total of 157 companies participated in the exhibition.

In order to promote awareness of the excellence and utility of its technologies and products, as well as create close networks with authorities on infectious diseases in Europe and elsewhere, Seegene has regularly participated in the ECCMID integrated symposium for the past few years.?

This year, Seegene introduced two products from its Allplex™ line, the Gastrointestinal and Respiratory Panel Assays, that provide test selection depending on a patient’s condition. The Allplex product line uses MuDT™ technology for the analysis of multiple Ct values in a single channel on gene amplification equipment (next-generation real-time PCR). This means that multiple tests can be conducted simultaneously via real-time PCR equipment to confirm infections by multiple pathogens and to measure pathogen quantities. The Gastrointestinal and Respiratory Panel Assays both received Europe’s CE certification last year and are currently being supplied to large general hospitals and commercial laboratories in Europe.

Seegene also presented its Nimbus IVD test platform, which simplifies and automates the entire test process from nucleic acid extraction to PCR setup. An “all in one” test platform, the Nimbus IVD uses CFX96™ (amplifies target genes in real-time) and has the significant advantage of being able to test for a variety of health problems (gastrointestinal infections, respiratory infections, STDs, cervical cancer). The single comprehensive system eliminates the need to set-up different equipment per test subject, so it not only enhances convenience and effective use of lab space but also reduces lab operation fees, manual labor, and the amount of time required for testing.

On April 10, the second day of the conference, Seegene gave a two-hour presentation at the integrated symposium entitled “Advanced Multiplex Molecular Diagnostics for Respiratory and Gastrointestinal Tract Infections.” The presentation focused on clinical evaluations and utility of the gastrointestinal and respiratory panel assays.

Dr. Bruno Lina of the University Hospital of Lyon, and director of France’s National Reference Centre for Influenza (a global authority on respiratory viruses), gave a well-received presentation entitled “Clinical Effects of Molecular Diagnosis for the Management of Respiratory Infections.” Dr. Anu Rebbapragada of Canada’s Dynacare Medical Laboratories, who is an expert on microorganisms and molecular diagnosis, gave a presentation of particular interest to experts affiliated with laboratories. Rebbapragada shared the clinical evaluation results of the molecular diagnosis of gastrointestinal infection pathogens and explained how molecular diagnoses enhanced the quality of tests and saved time, costs and the use of reagents.

At its display booth, Seegene conducted a photo event where visitors could take pictures to commemorate their attendance at the conference. Seegene also conducted various marketing surveys.
